Agriculture should account for 20-25% of the Ukrainian economy - Volodymyr Hroisman

According to the Prime Minister, at the moment, taking into account processing, agriculture accounts for 16-17% of Ukraine's GDP, UNIAN reports.

The agro-industrial complex, provided that the depth of processing is increased and innovative solutions are introduced, should amount to 20-25% of the Ukrainian economy.

Prime Minister Volodymyr Hroisman announced this at a meeting with participants of the innovation hub Sikorsky Challenge at the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute. "The agro-industrial complex forms 12-13% today without processing, and with processing it forms plus 4% of GDP." 20-25% is an absolutely real indicator to which we are moving today, " says Volodymyr Hroisman.

According to the Prime Minister, innovative development will allow to increase the share of the agro-industrial complex in the structure of the Ukrainian economy. "We need solutions that will provide absolutely different positions for the production of our products, the depth of processing and support of our products in international markets," stresses Volodymyr Hroisman.

It bears reminding that according to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food, the proceeds from the export of Ukrainian agrarian products in 2017 increased by 16.3% compared to 2016 and amounted to more than 17.9 billion dollars with a total exports of 53.3 billion dollars. The top three export leaders of Ukrainian agrarian and food products are headed by grain crops with a share of 36.2%, the second place is occupied by vegetable oils - 25.1% and the third - oilseeds with a share in the structure of 11.3%. In 2017, Ukraine exported agricultural products to Asia (42.6%), the European Union (32.4%), African countries (14.2%), the CIS (7.6%), the United States (0.4%) and other countries (2.8%).
