The head of the Ukrainian Stock Breeders Association, Irina Palamar, addressed a round table on the topic "Impact of the uncontrolled pesticide market on the ecosystem of Ukraine", which took place on May 23 in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

In the framework of the event, the issues of urgency and the need to strengthen Ukraine's environmental safety, the state of regulation of the agrochemical market in Ukraine, its problems and threats, environmental risks of harming the ecosystem of Ukraine through the unregulated market of pesticides, the need to introduce innovations in the market of plant protection products, the need to update relevant legislation and a number other issues.

Head of the Ukrainian Stock Breeders Association Iryna Palamar stressed that one of the priorities of Ukraine's national interests should be environmentally friendly and technologically safe living conditions for citizens, preservation of the environment as a whole. She drew the attention of those present to the fact that the Law "On the Fundamentals of National Security of Ukraine" separately specifies real and potential threats to the national security of Ukraine, among which, in particular, is uncontrolled importation of environmentally hazardous technologies, substances and materials to Ukraine.

"In the bill No. 6606" On pesticides and agrochemicals ", which is planned to be placed in the session hall for consideration by people's deputies, it is proposed to simplify access to the newest international plant protection products for Ukraine," says Iryna Palamar. - But this is a big risk that pesticides of hazardous quality will be imported under the guise of research drugs in Ukraine. Pesticides are already dangerous substances, and their misuse will cause irreparable harm to the environment. Among harmful pollutants of our nature, pesticides already account for 20%. And most importantly, the most affected people are those who are engaged in agricultural production, people living in rural areas, people who consume food. We will suffer all! ".

Iryna Palamar put the EU countries as an example, where the safety of the nation is placed above all, and a large number of pesticides is strictly prohibited for use. According to the EU rules, every new drug (pesticide) must undergo a state test according to a certain procedure, and only on the basis of a previously issued permit by a member state of the EU, a permission to use it in another EU country is issued.

"Ukraine, through simplification of its requirements for import of pesticides, will turn into a research ground for other countries, or even worse, into a worldwide pesticide cemetery, the consequences of which every citizen will feel," says Iryna Palamar.

The head of the Ukrainian Stock Breeders Association appealed to the head of the Verkhovna Rada and people's deputies with a demand to vote against the adoption of bill No. 6606, or not to vote for it at all.

"If the voice of the public and experts is ignored and this shameful bill gets the status of law, we will demand from the President of Ukraine to use his right of veto and not to sign it," concludes Iryna Palamar. - We warn that we will turn to the support of international organizations, the European community, we will resort to various forms of protest, public pressure and actions of disobedience, but we will not let Ukraine become a world pesticide cemetery.

On the eve of the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections, we will recall all by name who will risk going against the life and health of their people."

Among the other speakers present at the roundtable, People's Deputy of Ukraine Victor Krivenko, Head of the Committee on Industrial Policy and Entrepreneurship, People's Deputy of Ukraine Halasiuk V., President of the Ukrainian Business Association Chepovyi V., the head of the board of the State Enterprise "Ukrainian Industrial Association for Plant Protection" Kuzmenko S., the representative of the All-Ukrainian youth public organization "Student Republic" Hedrovych A., representatives of the State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection.
