On Friday the European Union confirmed the entry into force on October 1 of additional trade preferences for Ukraine.

This is reported by "Infoindustria".

This package of trade preferences was officially approved by the EU Council on July 17. It should slightly reduce the number of EU trade restrictions on Ukraine, which remain in effect, despite the fact that countries already have a full-fledged agreement on a free trade area.

This is good news for Ukrainian exporters. A number of important agricultural and industrial goods will get better access to the European market, as they will be able to export without customs tariffs, the joint statement of European Commissioner for Trade Cecilia Malmström and Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine Nataliia Mykolska has said.

In their view, the introduction of these preferences is also "an important sign of economic and political support from the EU of Ukraine, its people and the reform process."

The EU's package of preferences, in particular, provides for the introduction of additional quotas, according to which Ukrainian producers can duty-free import their products to the European market. First of all, it concerns agricultural producers: the EU allocates to Ukraine an annual quota for duty-free import of tomatoes (3,000 tons), wheat (65,000 tons), corn (625,000 tons), barley (325,000 tons). At the same time, during the discussion of the document, the EU quotas for Ukraine were revised downwards, taking into account European producers.

It bears reminding that on July 4 these measures were approved by the European Parliament. The author of the project, the Polish MEP Jaroslaw Walesa then declared his desire to support the reforms that are being carried out in Ukraine, to strengthen small and medium-sized enterprises and create conditions for the growth of trade. He also expressed the hope that these funds will strengthen relations and "provide effective assistance to Ukraine that will be economically and politically beneficial for the Ukrainian people."
