Exports of beef and pork are falling, chicken and sausage are growing

"In April, the export of fresh or chilled beef amounted to 0.782 thousand tons - a decrease of 25% compared to the volume of exports in April 2017 (1,044 thousand tons)," calculate the analysts.

According to the State Customs Service, exports of frozen beef in January-April 2018 in cash terms amounted to $ 22.3 million, which is 13.6% lower than the same period last year ($ 25.8 million).

The main buyers were such countries: Kazakhstan - 30.8%, or $ 7.178 million, Azerbaijan - 20.49%, or $ 4.775 million, Belarus - 18.15%, or $ 4.228 million, the share of other countries was 30.56%, or $ 7.120 million.

In April, the export of this segment of meat amounted to 2.242 thousand tons - the highest since the beginning of 2018. At the same time, in April 2018, Ukraine imported 0.162 thousand tons, which is the highest figure for the last two years.

"In January-April 2018, beef was imported into Ukraine fresh or chilled at a total cost of 381 thousand USD. The main suppliers were last year's exporting countries: the USA - 67.19%, Australia - 14.7%, the Netherlands - 9.71%, the share of other countries' supplies was 8.4%. And the total cost of deliveries of frozen beef amounted to 1.6 million USD, the main exporting countries in this period were Lithuania (47.6% - $ 752 thousand), Poland (23.7% - $ 374 thousand) and Belarus ($ 14.7% - 231 thousand)," says the report.

According to analysts, in January-April 2018, pork was exported for $ 1.905 million. Deliveries were made to Hong Kong - 57.06% of total exports ($ 1.071 million), Georgia - 18.9% ($ 355 thousand), Vietnam - 18.86% ($ 354 thousand), the share of other countries was 5.17% with a total value of $ 97 thousand. The April export figure decreased by 57.6% to 0.214 thousand tons (0.5052 thousand tons in April 2017).

We note that in January-March this year the total volume of pork exports from Ukraine decreased by 62.3% to 0.899 thousand tons against 2.387 tons in 2017. When the volume of imports for 2017 amounted to 5.102 thousand tons of fresh, chilled or frozen pork, which is 45.8% more than in 2016.

"Over the period of January-April, 2018, the total cost of imported pork deliveries to Ukraine was $ 5.913 million, which is 63.6% more than last year's import value for the same period $ 1.238 million). In general, shipments came from the Netherlands - 29.2%, or $ 1.727 million, Germany - 21.7%, or $ 1.286 million, Poland - 15.2%, or $ 896 thousand. The share of other countries was 33.9%, or $ 2.006 million, " says the UFEB.

UFEB experts note an increase in exports of poultry meat and by-products. Over 4 months of 2018, the total value of these products was $ 150.163 million, which is 18.6% higher than the value of exports for the same period of 2017 ($ 122.3 million).

The main buyers of Ukrainian chicken in January-April this year were the following countries: the Netherlands - $ 37.7 million (25.13% of total exports), Slovakia - $ 16.6 million (11.08%), Iraq - $ 15.7 million 10.47%), the share of other countries was 53.32% of the total cost of deliveries of $ 80 million.

Exports of chicken in the past year increased by 42.2% to 270.096 thousand tons, compared with 2016 (156,906 thousand tons), and the main buyer of Ukrainian chicken was Egypt.

According to official data, 41,073 thousand tons of poultry meat were imported to Ukraine in January-April, fresh or chilled, frozen, which exceeds the last year's imports by 31.5% (23.5%). The largest share of imports falls on such countries: Poland - 61.7%, Germany - 14.6%, Hungary - 8.5%, the share of other countries - 15.2%.

In January-April, 2018, the total cost of export of sausages was $ 242.8 thousand, which is 7.2% more than the cost of exports of the same period last year ($ 225.3 thousand). The main countries to which supplies were delivered in the first four months of the year were Georgia (35.8% of the total exports, the total value of $ 142 thousand), Azerbaijan (29.5%, $ 117 thousand), Moldova (16.62% %, $ 66 thousand); the share of supplies to other countries was 18.14% of the total cost of $ 72 thousand.

"In general, for the first four months of 2018, 0.117 thousand tons of sausage products were exported, which exceeds last year's figure by 1.6 times. According to the State Customs Service, in 2017 Ukraine exported 0.283 thousand tons of sausages," says the UFEB.

Over four months of 2018, 0.132 thousand tons of sausage products were imported to Ukraine, exceeding the volume of last year's supplies by 6.8% (0.123 thousand tons). The main supplier of sausages in Ukraine in January-April 2018 was Spain with a total import value of $ 270 thousand, Italy ─ $ 191 thousand, Poland ─ $ 185 thousand. In 2017, Ukraine imported 0.518 thousand tons of sausages, which is 22% more than in 2016.
