Pork imports exceed exports in Ukraine

At the end of 11 months, Ukraine imported more pork from abroad than it exported. Thus, the total imports of fresh, chilled and frozen pork for this period reached 5.15 thousand tons, and exports - 4.7 thousand tons.

"Despite this, Ukraine's foreign trade balance for this commodity position remained positive," add experts.
Thus, the total value of imported pork is inferior to foreign exchange earnings due to exports by 0.84 thousand tons. Therefore, the foreign trade balance for this commodity position remains positive. However, whether Ukraine will be able to retain the title of net pork exporter remains questionable.

For the second month in a row, the export of pork (fresh, chilled, frozen) is much less than the receipt of the corresponding meat raw materials from abroad. So, the import of pig meat in November, as in October, amounted to 1 thousand tons. At the same time, exports decreased almost twice as compared to the second month of autumn and was eight less than the volume of pork imported in November - no more than 100 t according to preliminary estimates.

"Live deliveries of pork of foreign origin occurred against the backdrop of a slightly higher price for purchasing live slaughter pigs than slaughtered a month earlier. So, although the prices during November decreased, their average mark still exceeded the October one. Weakening prices are also observed in December, and some operators note sufficient volumes of reserves. Therefore, the probability that Ukrainian exporters will be able to make up to "equalize the account" before the end of the year is, and only with the further fall in price and the weakening of pork imports.
