Hungary: the first case of African swine fever

African swine fever was first recorded among wild boars in Hungary, pigua.info reported.

The World Organization for Animal Health reported on the first outbreak of African swine fever in Hungary. The disease was found among wild boars in the Gyöngyös area (Heves).

Based on the information currently available, the most likely source of infection is food wastes brought by foreign nationals who work in large numbers at industrial facilities located in the area. Detailed epidemiological research continues.
