In Ukraine the products become more expensive 7 times faster than in the EU

According to the results of the first quarter of 2018, food inflation in the countries of the European Union was 0.6%, while in Ukraine - 4.4%. The rate of rise in price of food products in the EU was 7 times slower than in Ukraine, the economical discussion club states, agroday.com.ua reports.

Analysts point out that the drivers of food inflation in January-March this year, both in Ukraine and in the countries of the European Union were fruits and vegetables.

At the same time, consumer prices for fruit and vegetable products in Ukraine increased by 18%, while in the EU only by 1.5-2.7%.

The highest food inflation among European countries in annual terms (March 2018 to March 2017) was also our country (+ 17.9%). Among the EU countries, consumer prices for foodstuffs in Slovakia increased by 6.0% in the last 12 months. In Greece, Ireland and Cyprus, food prices even fell within 1-2%.

By the way, among the countries of the former USSR that are located in Europe, the highest annual growth in consumer prices for the 1st quarter of 2018 was recorded in Belarus (+ 2.0%).
