On September 19, the Estonian Veterinary and Food Board diagnosed African swine fever (ASF) on a farm with 6,800 pigs in the Krychu village of the Liaenetskyi district.

On the territory of the pig farm, there was a quarantine. The delivery of pigs and meat from the surrounding zone was limited. All animals in the farm will be killed.

An epidemiological investigation was organized to determine how the virus got to the farm.

ASF is widely spread in the countries closest to Estonia. As of today, it was found in 75 pig farms in Poland and eight in Lithuania, including 25,000 pigs in the farm. This year in Latvia six cases of infection of domestic pigs of ASF were diagnosed.
