Ukraine will gather the second largest crop in modern history

As of October 25, following the results of maize harvesting from an area of 2.5 million hectares or 55%, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy clarifies its previous harvest forecast at 62 million tons. This was reported by First Deputy Minister Maksym Martyniukduring a meeting on field work.

Corn for grain with a forecast of 4.5 million hectares was harvested from an area of 2.5 million hectares or 55%, 11.7 million tons were harvested with a yield of 47.4 c / ha. (In 2016 - 58.3 c / ha). The main factor influencing the decline in yields is a shortage of a significant amount of precipitation during the vegetation period, especially in the steppe zone (Dnipropetrovsk, Kirovograd, Mykolaiv, Odesa regions).

"Corn and wheat form a total of 80% of gross harvest, so this figure was decisive for the generalized forecast. In the end, the result, although less than last year, was better than previous expectations, primarily because the influence of weather conditions was uneven, "  says Maksym Martyniuk. This crop is the second in volume for the recent history of Ukraine, second only to last year's record.

In general, grain and leguminous crops with a forecast of 14.6 million hectares have threshed 12.5 million hectares or 85% of the forecasted areas, 49.8 million tons of grain have been harvested at a yield of 39.9 centners per hectare (in 2016 - 42.6 centners / ha).

In addition, the harvesting of sunflower is carried out, which is forecasted for 5.9 million hectares on the area of 5.5 million hectares or 93% to the forecast, 10.8 million tons are harvested at a yield of 19.6 centner / ha (in 2016 - 21 9 centners / ha).

Soy, with a forecast of 2.0 million hectares, 1.6 million hectares or 81% were threshed, 3.0 million tons were harvested, while yields were 18.7 centner / ha (in 2016 - 21.7 centner / ha).
Sugar beet, with a forecast of 318,000 hectares, was harvested on an area of 213,000 hectares, or 67 percent, of 9.3 million tons digested, with a yield of 435 centners per hectare (in 2016 - 468 centners per hectare) and 7.6 million tons exported.

It should be recalled that the Ministry of Agrarian Policy forecasted a grain crop in 2017 in the range of 61-63 million tons. Last year, 66 million tons were harvested.
