What records did Ukraine beat in agrarian exports in 2017

In 2017, the output of the agro-industrial complex occupied slightly more than 41% of the total exports from Ukraine, retaining leadership in its commodity structure.

This was reported by the deputy director of the National Scientific Center "Institute of Agrarian Economics", NAASU corresponding member Mykola Puhachov.

According to Mykola Puhachov, a characteristic feature of the 2017 for the domestic agricultural sector of the economy was a number of records on the volume of agricultural products to foreign markets.
Following the results of 2017, Ukraine exported agricultural products (groups 1-24 UKTVED) for $ 17.8 billion. This result was the second in the history of independence, losing to the volume of exports reached in 2012 of $ 17.9 billion, the expert said. And taking into account casein, albumin, skins, fur, wool, etc. exports last year reached nearly $ 18.0 billion.

According to the estimates of the Institute of Agrarian Economics, thanks to the record volume of exports against the background of a slight increase in the volume of imports of agricultural products was up to $ 4.6 billion compared to the indicators of 2016. The surplus in this group of goods reached a record $ 13.3 billion.
"The key products of domestic agrarian exports have traditionally been grains and oilseeds, sunflower oil and food products, accounting for about 90% of its value," says the deputy director of the ESC of the Institute of Agrarian Economics.

And he added that in 2017 Ukraine updated its grain export record. Supplies of Ukrainian grain to the markets of the world amounted to 41.8 million tons, of which maize - 19.4 million tons, wheat - 17.3 million tons, barley - 4.9 million tons.

The record year also became for export of soybean (2.9 million tons), sunflower oil (5.8 million tons), sugar (almost 600,000 tons) and oil cake (4.9 million tons).

Last year, foreign deliveries of livestock products also increased significantly, the expert said. Absolute records were recorded in the export of poultry meat (271,000 tons), eggs (92,000 tons), butter (30,000 tons) and honey (68,000 tons).

"In addition, the forecast of the scientists of the Institute of Agrarian Economics on the achievement of record volumes of deliveries of domestic agricultural products to the countries of the European Union was fully confirmed in 2017. Last year, Ukraine supplied agro-food products to the EU by $ 5.8 billion, exceeding the record exports of agro-foodstuffs to this region before the crisis 2012 and 2013 at $ 5 billion and reaching the highest for the time of independence of the indicator, "- sums up Puhachov.
