In 2017, Ukraine exported 88 thousand live heads of cattle and received $ 33.5 million, Andrii Pankratov, analyst of agricultural markets and national consultant FAO in Ukraine, wrote on his Facebook page, АgroРolit.com reported.

It bears reminding that today most cattle are owned by the population - almost 66%, only 34% are agricultural enterprises.

In Pankratov's opinion, taking into account certain factors, it would be possible to earn $ 1 billion more on exports.

"The average weight of one head in this export was only 294 kg, and the average price of a kilogram of live weight was only $ 1.32. On exports of beef and offal, even at a low price at which beef was exported - $ 2.89, it would be possible to earn more, but how much could you earn if you export not the today’s cattle, but the conditioned, properly fattened bulls weighing 550 kg, as experts recommend it?" he wondered.

According to Andrii Pankratov, if the beef was exported instead of the cattle sold abroad last year, the country would additionally receive at least $ 2.7 million (excluding the cost of offal).

"On export of cattle weighing about 550 kg, the revenue would be more than $ 29 million (at $ 1.32/kg of live weight), while processing and export of beef from such bulls would make it possible to earn more than $ 34 million (1 billion UAH)," - he noted.
