Last week the Polish Sejm Commission supported a government bill to simplify the sale of pork from restricted areas due to the emergence of African swine fever. The project was sent to the second reading, pigua.info reported.

The bill amends the special law on specific activities related to the emergence of African swine fever (ASF) in the territory of the Republic of Poland of September 5, 2016. The Deputy Minister of Agriculture Rafal Romanovsky explained that the amendments stipulate that, in addition to selling processed meat products, it will be possible to sell meat of healthy pigs from farms located in areas covered by prohibitions, regulations or restrictions due to the ASF. He stressed that such a decision was awaited by farmers, because they could not sell bred pigs.

It is assumed that the legislation on public procurement will not be applied to pork deliveries, which will meet veterinary requirements, as well as to meat products made from pigs from the territories of distribution of ASF. Special opportunities will be provided to state institutions, mainly the financial sector.

The bill must enter into force on the day after its publication. According to the Deputy Minister, the early entry into force of the new rules is necessary through the special position of the peasants from these territories. Changes should affect more than 5 thousand farms.
