By the end of 2017, prices for chicken eggs can grow by 10-15% - to UAH 26 per dozen on average.

This was reported by Svitlana Pashko, Senior Researcher of the Pricing and Agricultural Market Department of the National Research Center "Institute of Agrarian Economics", the press service of the NSC informs.

"The sharp jump in prices for this type of product is due to the fact that the cost of grain, which is the basis of the diet of poultry feeding, depends on the dollar exchange rate. In addition, domestic egg producers primarily sell products on foreign markets, where Ukrainian chicken eggs are in high demand, and only excess products are sold on the domestic market, " explains the expert.

According to her, if demand increases both in the domestic and foreign markets, the price goes up.

"In addition, the market for chicken eggs is characterized by relatively stable demand and seasonal fluctuations in production during the year, which affect the price. The cheapest eggs are in spring and summer, when eggs are produced on the market, produced in the households of the population. Prices reach their highest peak in the autumn-winter period, when production in the households of the population decreases, and industrial poultry farms, selling their products at inflated prices, cover the losses of the previous months, " says Svitlana Pashko.

She noted that this year the lowest wholesale price for chicken eggs was in July - 10.35 UAH for a dozen. In the following months, the cost began to increase and amounted to 11.57 UAH in a month in August, in September - 15.04 UAH for a dozen, in October - 19.73 UAH for a dozen. That is, since July, the wholesale and purchase price for chicken eggs increased by 90.6%.

According to the expert, the retail price for chicken eggs of the 1st category increased from 13.27 UAH for a dozen in July to 22.91 UAH for a dozen in October (+ 72.6%). Retail price for chicken eggs of the second category in October was 19.99 UAH for a dozen versus 10.58 UAH for a dozen, that is, increased by 88.9%.

"In the context of the regions of Ukraine in the trade network and in local markets, there is a significant fluctuation in prices for chicken eggs. It indicates a low territorial mobility of eggs and a difference in income levels of the population in the regions, " sums up Svitlana Pashko.
