President Petro Poroshenko has signed the law, which prolonged for 1 year the moratorium on the sale or alienation of agricultural land by other means.

This is stated in the message of the press service of the head of state.
The document amends Section X "Transitional Provisions" of the Land Code of Ukraine, which the Verkhovna Rada adopted on December 7.

The parliament considers it lawful to extend the moratorium on the sale of agricultural land a year. The document comes into force from the day following the day of its publication.

"The implementation of the law will ensure the formation of proper regulatory and legal support for the functioning of the agricultural land market," the press service said.

Reference: the moratorium was introduced by the Verkhovna Rada in January 2001. The initiator of the decision is the people's deputy Anatolii Matviienko. The law provided that the moratorium would be in force short-term - until the adoption of the law on the circulation of agricultural land or the corresponding norm in the Land Code.
Later, in the same year 2001, the parliament adopted the Land Code, but it referred to the abolition of the moratorium, on the contrary, the law continued it until the end of 2005. After that, the moratorium was prolonged 8 more times: in 2004, 2006, 2008, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2015 and most recently in 2016 - until January 1, 2018. Today it has been extended until January 1, 2019.
