Domestic environmentalists appealed to the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko with a request to prohibit farmers from using pesticides in the field aerial processing, UNN reported with reference to the relevant document.
According to environmentalists, none of the certified Ukrainian laboratories does not control the use of pesticides by Ukrainian agrarians. Specialized regulatory bodies - the State Service of Ukraine for Consumer Protection and Food Safety and the State Environmental Inspectorate - check only the availability of documents for the use of certain toxic chemicals.
“But real control over the content of pesticides in water, air and soil, for exactly which pesticides use agricultural enterprises and in what quantity, whether they are lawfully imported into Ukraine, whether they are not prohibited for use or expired, is not performed by any state authority”, write environmentalists.
Because of the uncontrolled use of pesticides by agrarians, bees, poultry, and wild animals are massively dying in Ukrainian villages, ecologists explain.
“People, and especially children, with symptoms of chemical poisoning seek help,” add environmentalists.
In this regard, environmentalists appealed to the President of Ukraine with a number of requirements. Among other things, environmentalists ask Poroshenko to convene an emergency meeting of the
National Security and Defense Council to decide to ban the use of any pesticides. The ban should be in effect until the state ensures proper control over the use of toxic chemicals by agrarians.
Also, environmentalists consider it necessary to create in Ukraine the State Register of Pesticides and Agrochemicals Permitted to Use. The text of the appeal was signed by 13 Ukrainian environmental organizations.
