In the second half of March, the live pig market felt some revival. Such activation was a positive signal in the formation of prices this week. So, some suppliers of slaughter pigs were able to raise quotations by 0.5-1 UAH/kg relative to the previous week. As a result, the average market mark rose to 46.7 UAH/kg, agronews.ua reports

According to the meat processors, who this week mainly bought raw materials at 46-47 UAH/kg, next week is expected to continue the upward price movement. According to their forecasts, during the preparation of processors for Easter, a kg of pork in live weight can reach the level of 48 UAH/kg next week. Representatives of meat processing enterprises note that the existing offer of live animals on the market in certain regions is slightly less than expected. This forms the prerequisites for a more intense trade at the end of the month and a rise in prices.

Although some suppliers this week have slightly increased the volume of purchases, in those regions of the country that suffered most from the "spring" blizzards, meat processors were forced to "postpone" the party at the end of March. Therefore, such a redistribution of live animals will also affect the supply-demand ratio of pig slaughter conditions. The factor that will hinder the growth of prices for Ukrainian pork is the availability of a proposal of cheap imported products of both European and Canadian origin.

At the same time, meat processors note that the current sale of meat for Easter may be somewhat inferior to last year's: in 2017, the holiday was on the May weekend, and warm weather conditions contributed to the simultaneous start of the picnic season. On the other hand, this year these events are separated, which in general gives Ukrainians more reasons to enjoy pork.
