If a company has permission to export products to the European Union, then the countries of Asia, Africa and Latin America make it easier to access their own markets. This approach is related to the fact that the EU has high standards of quality and food safety, which these countries trust. This was stated by Deputy Director of the Department - Head of the State Control Department of the Department of Food Products and Veterinary Medicine of the State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection Mykola Bilous during the round table "Food Safety and Quality", АgroРolit.com reported.
The event was also attended by the Director of the Government Office for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Olha Stefanyshyna, representatives of the Estonian government, the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine, EU experts and others.
Mykola Bilous noted that currently 290 Ukrainian enterprises have the right to export to the EU. 110 of which are food producers, in particular, producers of poultry meat, fish, honey, eggs, milk and dairy products. Also, 180 enterprises that produce non-food products of animal origin, such as down-feather raw materials, skins, feeds for unproductive animals, non-food by-products, breeding material, and other non-food products of animal origin can also export to the European Union.
"If Ukraine did not improve the legislation, it would not be able to sell its products to countries that have established additional export requirements," Mykola Bilous emphasized.
He drew the attention of those present to the fact that access to any market of any state takes place according to a certain mechanism: the compulsory appeal of our competent authority to the competent authority of the country concerned, the answer to the questionnaire on export opportunities, which contains a specific list of issues on the structure of the system of state control and supervision food safety in the territory of the respective state.
The next step is an inspection visit of the experts of the country, in which Ukraine intends to supply products, in order to assess our system of state control and supervision of food safety. In case of receiving positive conclusions of experts, a decision is made to include Ukraine in the list of exporting countries of food and animal products. Therefore, representatives of business that are wiling to export products are especially interested in fulfilling the requirements of the legislation.
According to Mykola Bilous, the process of improving legislation, in particular within the framework of harmonization of legislation with EU standards, is quite intensive now in Ukraine. So, for the last period a number of important legislative acts regulating the sphere of food safety was adopted. For example, at the end of last year, the Law "On Food Safety and Hygiene" was adopted, and in April of this year the Law of Ukraine "On State Control over Compliance with Food Legislation, Feed, Animal by-Products, Animal Health and Welfare" came into force.
The participants analyzed the changes expected by producers and consumers of food products in the framework of the Law of Ukraine "On State Control ...", prospects and peculiarities of the implementation of its norms.
"The adoption of this law takes place within the framework of Ukraine's gradual transition to international norms and standards for food products. This will provide consumers with safe and quality products and enter new markets, offering better products and becoming more competitive at the international level," – noted Mykola Bilous.
