Any restrictions on the import of products stimulate their own production. This was told to UNN by MP, member of the Tax Committee of the Verkhovna Rada Mykhailo Holovko, commenting on the record volume of imports of palm oil to Ukraine.

"I support the idea of imposing a tax on the import of palm oil. Any import restrictions stimulate own manufacture of any production, including the added cost which creates additional workplaces. It is also the payment of taxes and, in general, a positive impact on the economy," he said.

The deputy stressed that the policy of import substitution should be "in every sensible country".

"In general, the less import - palm oil - the better. It is also harmful to health. It will be useful for our citizens and economically profitable," he concluded.

As UNN wrote, the VR recently adopted a bill banning the use of palm oil in food. The document has so far been voted only in the first reading.

According to Deputy Serhii Tryhubenko, adoption of the bill as a whole can provoke a rise in the price of end food products (butter, cheese, sour cream), but this is logical, because palm oil replace today natural animal fats, which can not be allowed."

It bears reminding that since the beginning of the year about 200 thousand tons of palm oil have been imported to Ukraine.
