In the first 14 weeks of this year, that is until April 8, 2138 cases of the African swine fever virus were registered in the European Union and in Ukraine. According to the latest data of the EU Commission, in 2108 cases it is wild fauna (among wild boars), and 30 cases among domestic pigs, pigua.info reported.

According to the Commission, the spread of the disease among wild boar population has increased significantly. The number of outbreaks in the first three months of this year exceeded half of all cases of infection last year. A sad leadership with 971 cases takes Poland. In Lithuania, during the reporting period, 647 outbreaks were registered, in Latvia - 278.

While the European commissioners compiled the report, the virus continued to spread among the wild boars. Last week in Poland during the meeting of the interagency group on mitigation of the consequences associated with the African swine fever reported that since the beginning of the year more than 1000 wild boars were diagnosed with ASF. Deputy Minister of Agriculture Rafal Romanovskyi stressed that the search is ongoing and it involves the subordinate province services, as well as the army and the police.
