Due to the African swine fever in Poltava, more than a thousand pigs were disposed. This was reported to UNN by Hennadiy Pikul, the head of the State Administration of the State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection of the Poltava region.
The outbreak of the virus was recorded in the Experimental Farm “Stepne” in the Poltava district, and the diagnosis of ASF was confirmed by laboratory tests, Hennadiy Pikul emphasized.
"The enterprise violated the requirements of biological safety, as a result of which 1,112 heads of pigs were burned. Today, the enterprise disinfected and installed a 40-day quarantine," he added.
However, because of the threat of ASF, peasants may be prohibited from selling domestic meat. The corresponding bill was registered in the parliament.
Experts, on the other hand, see in this initiative of parliamentarians a threat to the peasants who, starting in 2020 (if adopted) can lose "almost the only way of income."
"Among the motives of the initiative (No. 7489 - ed.) is the ASF virus, which the responsible departments can do nothing with for the third year in a row ... That is, the logic is this: "there is no effective state control in the domestic movement of live animals" (state bodies do not cope with direct functions and responsibilities), and therefore let's introduce a ban on the sale of domestic meat (which will deprive the peasants of one of the main types of their earnings, thanks to which the majority of their families today survive), - the politician S. Tryhubenko noted on his Facebook page.
