The AIC Committee at the Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) initiated the creation of a new division within the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food - the Directorate of Food, Innovations and Quality Schemes. This was reported by the press service of the Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce and Industry according to agravery.com.

It is noted that the functional of the new department will include updated directions for coordinating state policy in the food industry, as well as ensuring food security of the state.

"Ensuring the sustainable, efficient, balanced and proportionate development of the food and processing industry is one of the main tasks of the state economic policy, the implementation of which is the main condition for ensuring not only the needs of the domestic market, but also the formation of a powerful export potential," the Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Olena Kovaleva noted.

Now the only structural unit engaged in the formation and implementation of state policy in the food industry of Ukraine is the Department of Food (an independent structural unit within the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine).

"In our opinion, such a structure is really needed in the Ministry of Agrarian Policy. The creation of such a Directorate is, first of all, the EU requirement. Taking into account the current trends in the development of the sphere of production, supply, sale of food products, as well as the latest consumer preferences of the population, it is expedient to clearly identify the food industry, which requires in-depth attention and activity from the state bodies, and the functions of such bodies that will not be duplicated with other government bodies and to correspond to the best world practices and experience of leading states," CCI President Hennadii Chyzhykov said.

In the opinion of committee members, food security is in need of in-depth attention and revitalization by government agencies; innovations in the food industry; reduction of food and food waste; food quality schemes.
