The cost of meat in Ukraine since the beginning of this year has got up by almost a quarter, in particular, beef has risen in price by 30%, and pork - by 15%, the press service of the consulting agency Pro Consulting reports, according to Unian.

"Since the beginning of the year, the cost of meat in Ukraine has increased by almost a quarter. Depending on the region of Ukraine, retail prices for beef today range from 150 to 200 UAH per kg (30% more than at the beginning of the year), and for pork - 120 -160 UAH/kg (15% higher than in January),"- is said in a statement.

According to experts, the price of beef is rising due to a reduction in the number of cattle due to the low profitability of livestock. In addition, the payback period for investments in this area can be up to ten years, which causes risks to the business.

Experts also note a decrease in the production of pork, which in the seven months of this year produced 120 thousand tons, which is 9.4% less than in the same period last year. At the same time, experts noted that the development of exports is a promising area for the meat business.

"On the foreign market, in particular, in the countries of the Middle East and North Africa, Ukrainian producers have several advantages: feed for cattle in Ukraine is relatively cheap, and delivering finished products is closer than from the main exporting countries - Brazil, India, Australia", - is noted in the consulting agency.

The experts also noted that the promising segments for the export of pork would be the countries of the former Soviet Union, as well as the Far East.

As UNIAN reported, the volume of meat production in Ukraine in 2017 amounted to 3.26 million tons (in live weight), which is 0.4% less than in 2016.
