Livestock of Odesa region is in crisis

The third year in a row, the number of livestock and poultry in the farms of the Odessa region is declining.

This is reported by the regional statistics service.

According to the department, as of December 1, 2017 farms in the Odesa region counted 95.4 thousand cows, which is 2.7% less than a year ago, 274.4 thousand pigs, which is 16.5% less than in the previous year and 4381000 head of poultry (6.3% worse than last year's data).

For comparison, as of December 1, 2013 in the Odesa region there were 106.5 thousand cows, 404 thousand pigs and 5 million 238 thousand head of poultry.

Accordingly, the production of the main types of livestock products decreased. Thus, for 11 months in the region, 55.7 thousand tons of meat were produced (in 2013 - 70.2 thousand), 327 thousand tons of milk (402 thousand in 2013), 290 million eggs (against 355 in 2013 year).
