The largest outbreak of ASF is recorded in Latvia

The work of the farm Druvas Unguri is stopped, an investigation is underway. A protective zone is established within a radius of three kilometers from the farm and a surveillance zone within a radius of ten kilometers, Correspondent reported.

In Latvia an outbreak of African swine fever was recorded on the Druvas Unguri farm, where more than 15,000 animals are kept.

This is the largest outbreak of the disease since ASF was first registered in the country in 2014, BNS reported with reference to the Food and Veterinary Service of Latvia on Thursday, August 2.

In this regard, the Government of Latvia will hold an extraordinary meeting on Friday and discuss measures to prevent the spread of the disease.

Druvas Unguri has been breeding pigs since 1994. Now the work of the enterprise is stopped, an investigation has been launched. A protective zone is established within a radius of three kilometers from the farm and a surveillance zone within a radius of ten kilometers. Particular attention is paid to the transportation of pigs and meat products.

ASF in Latvia was first revealed in June 2014 among three wild boars on the border with Belarus.
