Japan confirmed the outbreak of classical swine fever (CSF) for the first time in 26 years, pigua.info reported.

The Ministry of Agriculture of Japan confirmed the discovery of the classical swine fever (CSF) at a pig complex in Gifu City, Gifu Prefecture, where 610 animals were kept.

The disease was suspected on September 3 after the death of the animal. Further studies confirmed the presence of the virus.

The Ministry carried out appropriate control and epizootic activities, including the destruction of pigs on the farm and the restriction of animal transport, the disinfection of the farm and the installation of disinfection points on the roads.

The last outbreak of the disease in Japan was recorded in 1992, and in 2007 it received the status of a country free from this disease from the OIE.
