The authorities of Lithuania suggested that pig farmers to refuse to keep pigs in exchange for compensation. To such measures the government of the country was prompted by the recent outbreak of ASF at the biggest pig farm of the Danish company Idavang in the Akmenes region, pigua.info reported.
Farmers will be paid 100 euros for one pig and another 1.5 thousand euros for the purchase of other animals. For these purposes, the government has allocated only 3 million euros so far.
Meanwhile, professionals continue to work at the Idavang sites in Lithuania. They are looking for how a dangerous virus got to the sites of the pig complex, where all the measures of biological safety were kept.
It bears reminding that the African swine fever in Lithuania has begun to spread sharply since 2013. In 2014 as a result of the ASF outbreak at another Idavang enterprise, the company slaughtered 19,000 animals.
