FAO: world prices for beef and chicken decreased

The average value of the FAO Meat Price Index was 169.8 points in June, which is insignificantly (0.3%) higher than the May figure, but 3.3% lower compared to the level of June 2017. This was reported by the press service of FAO, agravery.com reported.

"This insignificant increase compared to the previous month was mainly due to the sudden growth of mutton quotations, as well as a slight increase in prices for pork, while quotes for beef and poultry slightly decreased," is said in the report.

Stably high import demand against the backdrop of weak supply in the countries of Oceania caused an increase in prices for mutton, and high domestic demand (especially in Europe) led to a rise in prices for pork.

The large volume of export supply from Australia has become one of the factors in the reduction of prices for beef, and a significant amount of exports (especially from Brazil) against a background of weak import demand contributed to lower prices for poultry meat.
