Easter eggs this year will be the most expensive for the last 6 years, agroday.com.ua reported..

According to analysts, in March, ten eggs compared to March 2013, increased in price six times – from 5 to 27 UAH.

A significant increase in the price of eggs began in August 2017, when the price tag immediately increased from 10 UAH to 14.5 UAH.

Usually the prices for eggs fluctuate depending on the season. Traditionally, from the end of March to August, there has been a decline in prices, and since September their value has been rising again. This year, the decline in value has not yet been observed.

"Given the stable demand for Ukrainian products on the foreign market, it is not profitable for producers to sell eggs inside the country at a lower price, when it is possible to export more expensive," the UCAB explained. So, most producers raised the level of domestic prices to export prices. This gives them the opportunity to receive equal profits from both exports and sales of products on the domestic market.

Factor supporting prices is also the increase in the cost of grain, which is used for the production of feed.

The rise in prices for eggs could not but affect their consumption. According to the State Statistics Service, in 2016, when the price for 10 eggs in Ukraine averaged 16 UAH, the consumption per person per year was 267 eggs. Whereas in 2013 the average Ukrainian consumed about 309 eggs per year.

Pensioners reduced consumption of eggs the most. If a few years ago they could afford to buy about 20 eggs a month, then in 2018 they had to reduce their consumption to 8-10 eggs.
