Delegations of Ukraine, EU member states, Belarus and Russia in Warsaw discussed ways to combat ASF

On March 26, 2018 in Warsaw (Poland) a meeting of the Ministers of Agriculture and the Chief State Veterinary Inspectors of the Member States of the European Union, Ukraine, Belarus and the Russian Federation was held with the EU Commissioner for Health and Food Safety, Mr. Vytenis Andriukaitis. The topic of the meeting was "African swine fever in Europe - the future outlook", reports the website of the State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection.

This meeting was a kind of continuation of the discussion on preventing the spread of ASF, which took place on March 22-23 in Kyiv.

The Ukrainian delegation in Warsaw was represented by Boris Kobal, Director of the Department of Food Safety and Veterinary Medicine of the State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection.

During the meeting, the participants presented and discussed the current situation of the ASF in each of the EU countries, as well as Ukraine, Belarus and the Russian Federation.

An important place in the course of the work was given to the strategy issue of the measures taken, proposals for support from the European Commission.

It was directly noted that in order to achieve the set goal for the elimination of ASF, the competent authorities and governments of all countries should ensure:

- transparency in the conduct of measures;

- carrying out of wide explanatory work among the population;

- active cooperation of veterinary services at all levels - from central to regional;

- holding a company for the development of public consciousness among business entities engaged in breeding and growing animals, as well as hunters and forestry workers;

- strict compliance with and compliance with the legislation on the elimination of ASF at the national and transboundary levels.

Considerable attention was paid during the session to the results of the work on studying the genotype and other properties of the ASF virus in order to create means of immunization of animals from this disease.
