Limits for the production of European moose, the real number of which is still being discussed in Ukraine, has been significantly reduced after consultations with the environmental community. This was discussed at a joint press conference of the leadership of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources in the Cabinet of Ministers.

Based on the need to maintain a balance between the provision of species safety, conservation of the population and interests of the hunting industry, which could be destabilized after a drastic change in the rules of the game, it was decided to adjust the production limits.

In turn, this will allow us to conduct a professional scientific analysis and make informed decisions on the further use of the species.

According to the state statistical reporting, the number of elk is 6585 animal units. At the same time, some scientists consider this figure to be too high.

On the initiative of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, a meeting was held with the participation of representatives of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine, the Association of Users of Hunting Grounds, environmental organizations for the approval of limits for the extraction of animals. The initiative on the need to study the actual number of European moose and the range of its distribution was supported.

After the received results of scientific research it will be possible to draw conclusions about the prohibition or further use of this species.
