Over the past three years 1.5 million wild boars have been killed in Poland because of the threat of spreading the African swine fever virus (ASF). This is reported by the Polish Union of Hunters, UNN informed with reference to the Interregional ecological public organization “Green front”.

Polish hunters reported that the country is sorely lacking places to store carcasses of killed boars, and this, in turn, slows down the rate of shooting.

Polish authorities responded to the problem. The Polish Hunting Union was promised 5 million zlotys from the National Environmental Protection Fund for the purchase of 203 refrigerators for storing carcasses slaughtered in the fight against the ASF virus.

"Thanks to the project, wild boars from the refrigerator, whose research will not show contamination, will be transferred for processing and consumption that will reduce the amount of waste in the environment," the National Environmental Protection Fund of Poland said.

It bears reminding that in Ukraine because of ASF since 2016, about 80 thousand pigs from households and farms were destroyed. Also, because of ASF in Ukraine, meat is becoming more expensive: salo broke a record, it added in price almost 9 UAH per kilogram.
