China, which is the largest consumer of beef, pork and poultry in the world, is facing a new consumer trend. According to the report presented in the Financial Express, more and more Chinese people are switching to a vegetarian diet. The new trend has led to an increase in consumption of fruits and vegetables and a decline in sales of pork, beef and poultry. This is reported by kurkul.com.

The report, presented by Chinadialogue.net, shows that in the period from 2014 to 2016, pork sales decreased from 42.49 million tons to 40.85 million tons. According to UN trade, the import of avocados in China increased 13,000 times in the period from 2010 to 2016 as a result of changes in the dietary habits of local residents.

In 2014, the Xinhua News Agency reported that at least 50 million Chinese are vegetarians. This is 10% of the world's largest vegan population living in India (500 million people). Since then, only in Shanghai, the largest city in China, the number of vegan restaurants has doubled from 49 to over 100.
