Proposal in the market for more affordable poultry meat leads to "crowding out" this type of livestock products of other types of meat in the diet of Ukrainians.

This is reported by the head of the department of financial and credit and tax policy of the National Research Center "Institute of Agrarian Economics", Ph.D. Leonid Tulush.

In the mid-2000s, the share of chicken meat was at the level of rational consumption norms and in the total consumption of meat of all kinds was 38%. Beef accounted for 26%, and pork for 34%.

"The share of chicken meat increased to 47% in 2017, mainly due to beef, while the share of the latter in total consumption of all kinds of meat decreased to 16% with a rational consumption rate of 25%," says  he.

According to the calculations of the scientists of the Institute of Agrarian Economics, unlike other farm animals, the number of poultry available in agricultural enterprises in 2017 did not decrease compared to the level of 2016.
In 2017, only the volume of poultry farming in the agricultural enterprises had a positive trend - + 4.7% by 2016, while the growth of other types of farm animals is characterized by a downward trend.

"This imbalance in the production of meat is largely due to the imperfection of state financial support in 2017, when the production of poultry products was supported in two directions - in the form of a budget subsidy in the mode of quasi-accumulation of VAT and by providing a budgetary VAT refund while exporting poultry products," explains Tulush.
