In early August the lowest prices for chicken in domestic supermarkets were recorded – 82 UAH per kg. This is evidenced by the data of the inflation barometer for the period January-August 2018, UNN reported.

At the same time, at the beginning of August chicken meat cost 23 UAH cheaper than in November 2017. Then 1 kg of poultry cost 105 UAH.

Domestic experts explain the price policy of poultry farmers by the size of last year's subsidies. Then the largest producers received quite substantial amounts of state support, which allowed them to stabilize prices.

"In 2017 the IMF invited Ukraine to launch a mechanism of subsidies instead of special regime for preferential taxation. It was proposed to give subsidies to agro-companies depending on the amount of taxes paid. In the structure of livestock, poultry farmers occupy more than half of the market, respectively, and they received good subsidies. This allowed them to return money to cycle, increase the population of livestock and stabilize prices in the domestic market," economist Pavlo Moroz explained.
