Ukrainian butter will be cheaper, and cheeses will compete with Polish ones

In early spring, we should expect a decrease in the price of butter. A high price tag will last only until Maslenitsa festival.

Such forecasts were shared by the "Infagro" analyst Maksym Fastieiev in Facebook. His opinion is based on the falling dynamics of the purchase price of raw milk in the first half of 2018 and the principles of pricing processes.

"The stock quotes for the price of butter have "cooled off " in the world at the end of last year, which means that the Ukrainian producers, taking into account today's high production costs, have become uninteresting exports, - writes Maksym Fastieiev. "The internal wholesale price of the goods has already subsided, soon sellers will begin to actively fight for the domestic buyer."

According to him, in 2016, cheese makers due to low prices and margins had good sales volumes for the practical absence of imported competitors.

"Last year, along with the increase in the selling price, the margin also increased, but at the same time sales volumes fell and a real" threat "from Poland came. Let's see what strategy will be in 2018, I suspect that in the first half of the year prices will remain at today's level of +/- 10%, but the number of shares on the shelf will increase, " writes Maksym Fastieiev.

The prices for raw milk in the second half of 2017 were on average one third higher than in 2016. While whole milk products (milk, yogurt, sour cream and kefir) increased by 20-25% only until the end of the year. However, the refiners cannot raise the cost of whole milk products in parallel with the increase in the purchase price of milk.

Producers traditionally work in the winter "in negative", and in the summer - "in plus", so as not to injure the consumer by price jumps, the expert notes. These products are definitely not going to be cheaper.
