Ukraine increased imports of agricultural products by almost 10% in 2017

In 2017, Ukraine imported agricultural products of more than $ 4.6 billion, which is 9.5% more than in 2016, when imports of agricultural -food products amounted to about $ 4.2 billion.

This was reported by the deputy director of the ESC "Institute of Agrarian Economics", corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Mykola Puhachov, the press service of the institute reports.

According to him, the position of the main supplier of agricultural products in Ukraine for the second year in a row is kept by the EU member states. The cost of supplies from Europe last year increased from $ 1.94 billion in 2016 to $ 2.27 billion last year. The share of European countries was about half of the domestic import of agro-food - 48.9%. Almost twice less - $ 941 million (20.2% of Ukrainian imports of agricultural products) falls on the countries of Asia. Supplies from other regions are much smaller. Imports from Latin America amounted to $ 391 million (8.4%), Africa - $ 237 million (5.1%).

The volume of supplies from the CIS countries in 2017 decreased by 5.4% compared to the previous year, to $ 157 million (3.4% in total imports of agricultural -food products). The volume of imports from the US amounted to $ 194 million.

"In Ukraine in 2017, agricultural -food products were imported from Poland ($ 457 million) and Germany ($ 445 million). Also from Turkey ($ 301 million), France ($ 209 million), Italy ($ 198 million), the United States ($ 194 million), the Netherlands and Indonesia ($ 176 million), Norway ($ 149 million) and Spain ($ 128 million), " says Mykola Puhachov. 

Together these 10 countries provided more than 52% of the total value of imports of agricultural -food products in Ukraine.

In 2017, in the commodity structure of imports of food products in Ukraine, the lion's share was traditionally the fruit, mainly citrus fruits, bananas and nuts - $ 477 million. The second place in terms of purchases - $ 455 million - fish and crustaceans. The volume of imports of products of this group of products, which is dominated by frozen fish, increased by almost 11%, compared with 2016.

"The top three also included tobacco and products from it. They were purchased abroad for $ 403 million. Import of oilseed seeds (due to sunflower seeds) was $ 309 million. Coffee and tea were purchased abroad for $ 194 million, and ethyl alcohol for $ 182 million. These products were formed in Last year, just over half of the cost of importing agricultural products to Ukraine, " says he.
