Ukraine got a chance to "beat" Brazil in the European poultry market

At the end of May the embargo of the European Commission for 25 Brazilian poultry farms will come into force. Companies will not be able to appeal the Commission's decision, which is "one-sided". This is stated by the press secretary of the EU, PortalSpozywczy.pl reported, acording to agroday.com.ua.

Brazilian chicken meat fell into "disgrace" for violations in the official food safety control system. It turned out that Brazil falsified export certificates and ignored veterinary recommendations of the Union after the scandal of 2017.

To unblock access to the EU market companies will not only have to prove that they operate in compliance with EU standards, but also submit statements about the conformity of their standards to the Euro level.

Therefore, the European Union urgently seeks poultry suppliers, primarily chicken fillets.

As Adam Kurovskyi, an expert on the Polish SuperDrob SA, noted, there are not so many options. Up to 25% of chicken fillets on the EU market come from countries outside the Union - Brazil, Thailand, Chile and recently from Ukraine.

Only within the two main quotas, Brazil has supplied salted and natural fillets in 2017 in the volume of about 200 thousand tons. And the supply of Brazilian chicken carcasses is estimated at about 400 thousand tons. The next after Brazil is Thailand that gave about 265 thousand tons a year and Ukraine, the third in terms of volume - 80 thousand tons.

Since poultry farms that fall under the ban make up about 35% of Brazil's export potential, there will inevitably be a gap. For example, Ukraine can fill it in.
