The State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection (SSUFSCP) is working on improving the procedure for compensating households affected by ASF.

Changes should help to promptly and fully repay funds to those who suffered losses due to the introduction of quarantine or procedures for the elimination of especially dangerous diseases, especially ASF. This was reported by the press service of the department.

According to the head of the SSUFSCP Volodymyr Lapa, in the draft budget for 2018, the Cabinet proposes to increase financing of anti-epizootic measures for 113 million UAH to 687 million UAH. If these funds are actually envisaged in the budget for the next year, this will allow carrying out anti-epizootic measures at a higher level, and also compensate people in complete manner for losses from confiscated pigs due to ASF.

As noted by Volodymyr Lapa, now payments for losses incurred due to ASF were carried out from the reserve funds of local budgets. Citizens depend on the decision of local deputies, and the terms of payments are delayed because of bureaucratic procedures.

In addition, because of insufficient funds in the budget, sometimes even for the diagnosis of plague, SSUFSCP service had to look for sponsors.

In total in the current year (as of September), private farms affected by the ASF were compensated 16 million UAH, which is 89% of the demand. At the same time, the farms received only 1% (1.5 million UAH) of the compensation.
