Salo from the Netherlands replaces the Ukrainian

So much pork, as now, Ukraine has not imported in the past four years, a deputy Serhii Tryhubenko noted on his Facebook page, UNN reported.

"So much pork, as now, Ukraine has not imported in the past four years. In the first 3 months of 2018 Ukraine imported 1.8 thousand tons of pig meat, which is 17% more than last year. Import of salo increased even more - almost 60% (imported more than 14 thousand tons). At the same time, import of beef is insignificant, other meat is almost not imported at all" he noted.

The increase in the import of pork, according to the deputy, led to a rise in price of this type of meat in the domestic market, which in turn is associated with the spread of African swine fever (ASF) in the country.

"These statistic shows that it did not get better: the epidemic of ASF does not go down, and accordingly, the controllers' actions, like in the previous two years, do not have the desired effect. The industry continues to suffer losses, and the Ukrainian pork market floods the goods from the Netherlands”, - Serhii Tryhubenko noted.

He added that the prospect of a ban on the sale of domestic meat (since 2020, if the relevant bill is adopted), will make the prices for pork skyrocket.

"And then we will have to overpay for times the foreign goods, nourished for our market on GMO supplements," the deputy predicted.
