Russia banned the importation of live pigs and by-products of cattle from the European Union, the United States, Canada, Ukraine and several other countries.

This is stated in the government's decree, writes Ukrinform.

The ban will be valid until December 31, 2018 for the countries of the European Union, the USA, Canada, Australia, Norway, Ukraine, Albania, Montenegro, Iceland and Liechtenstein.

The authorities of the Russian Federation maintain that the imposed restrictions will not be reflected in ensuring the domestic needs of the country. According to the decree, now it is prohibited to import live pigs (except for purebred breeding animals) and any by-products of cattle, pigs, sheep, goats, horses, donkeys, mules (except for goods imported for the production of pharmaceutical products) to Russia.

In addition, under the embargo, various types of animal fat have fallen. For example, pork fat is fresh, chilled, frozen, salted, in brine, dried or smoked. In Russia, you can also no longer import fat from poultry, cattle, sheep or goats.

Recall, Russia imposed restrictions on the supply of food from the United States, the European Union, Canada, Australia and Norway in August 2014. In the Kremlin, these actions were called "measures" on Western sanctions, which were imposed by the annexation of the Crimea and Russia's interference in the conflict in eastern Ukraine.

In June, the Russian authorities extended the food embargo until the end of 2018.
