Rada took the first step to ban palm oil in food

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted in the first reading the bill №3871 "On Amending Certain Laws of Ukraine Regarding the Prohibition of the Use of Palm Oil in the Production of Foodstuffs." This is reported by own correspondent AgroPolit.com.

The bill was supported by 233 people's deputies. The initiators of the law are Oleh Liashko, Viktor Halasiuk, Viktor Vovk and Ihor Mosiichuk. According to the People's Deputy, palm oil provokes cancer and severe diseases of the cardiovascular system.

This bill proposes amendments to the Code of Ukraine of Administrative Offenses, providing for administrative responsibility for the offense committed, namely: production, introduction into circulation (release to the Ukrainian market, in particular for repair) or selling products that do not meet the requirements of standards, certificates of conformity, norms, rules and samples (standards) for the safety and quality of food products with palm oil content, completeness and packaging (except for cases when It refers to the legislation of Ukraine), - punishable by a fine on officials of enterprises, institutions, organizations regardless of ownership, citizens, business owners or their authorized persons from twenty to one hundred non-taxable minimum incomes of citizens. The actions envisaged in part one of this article, committed repeatedly within a year after the application of administrative penalties, entail the imposition of a fine from one hundred to two hundred non-taxable minimum incomes of citizens.

It is also proposed to state in the new version part two of Article 6 and supplement Article 21 of the Law of Ukraine "On Milk and Dairy Products" with regard to the prohibition to use palm oil in the production of milk and traditional dairy products and to prohibit the use of palm oil in art. 27 of the Law of Ukraine "On safety and quality of food products".
