Poultry meat accounts for 80% of total meat exports from Ukraine

Over 2 months 2018 Ukrainian farms produced 388 thousand tons of meat of all kinds, which is 0.2% higher than the corresponding period of 2017. This was reported by the press service of the Economic Discussion Club.

A slight increase, as in the previous month, was ensured by the poultry industry, where production increased by 4.8%. But in the production of pork and beef, there is a drop of 5.0% and 3.2%, respectively.

Export of meat and meat products in January-February amounted to 54 thousand tons (+ 30% against the same period in 2017), imports - 41 thousand tons (+ 41%).

The priority in domestic meat exports is traditionally left for poultry meat, which share in the total export volume exceeds 80%. In physical terms, 44 thousand tons of poultry meat were imported for 2 months of this year, which is 40% more than a year ago. The largest volumes of supplies of domestic poultry in January-February this year were carried out on the markets of the Netherlands, Iraq and Slovakia.

In the meat import the leading positions are taken by: poultry meat (50% of the total volume), salo (31%) and pork (14%). Imported products enter the domestic market, mainly from EU countries (Poland, Germany and Hungary). The share of imports in domestic food consumption of meat was 11%.

According to balance calculations, in January-February of the current year the filling of the domestic market with meat and meat products was almost at the last year's level.

The estimated per capita consumption of meat and meat products by the population for 2 months of this year was 8.8 kilograms per person.
