Farmers from northern Poland, which borders on the Russian Kaliningrad region, appealed to the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development to accelerate work related to the construction of a fence on the border with Russia. This is written by "Polish Radio", epravda.com.ua reports.

The farmers say that the fence would not allow the wild boars infected by the ASF to enter the territory of Poland, and accuse the authorities of being passive.

"If a fence had been built, the uyezds of Braniewo and Bartoszyce would not have had problems with African swine fever, there would not have been dead boars and other problems," say the farmers.

Entrepreneurs complain that they are forced to increase the costs of biological protection of their farms, but meanwhile the government "does nothing".

Minister of Agriculture Krzysztof Jurgiel promises that key decisions on the construction of the fence will be taken already this month.

The principles of biosecurity, which should be followed by farmers who grow pigs, will be introduced throughout Poland, not only in areas under the threat of ASF. According to the minister, "small farms that do not want to adapt to these requirements will receive a 3-year compensation for the refusal of pig production."

It is known that in Poland planned to build a fence on the border with Ukraine and Belarus to protect against wild boars.

The cost of building a wall of more than 1,000 km is 130 million PLN (more than 37 million dollars). At the same time, in the first year of operation, the cost of its maintenance and maintenance will reach 190 million PLN (more than 54 million dollars). The wall will be built during 2018-2021.

In total, in Poland, during 2014, 104 centers of ASF have been recorded, while 81 have been recorded this year. In addition, during this time the disease ASF revealed almost 900 wild boars near the Polish-Belarusian border, as well as in the vicinity of Warsaw.
