Poland: 3 thousand pigs suffered because of the ASF virus over the week

According to the report of the Chief Veterinary Officer of Poland, five outbreaks of the virus in households were registered last week, pigua.info reported.

The pig producers of the two regions suffered the greatest losses. In the Lubelskie Voivodship, outbreaks were recorded on two farms with a total of 1,837 animals. In the Warminsko-Mazurskie Voivodship, the ASF hit three farms, where 1146 pigs were bred. The total number of foci, thus, reached 180, of which 76 - in the current year.

Outbreaks of the virus were also detected among wild pigs last week. In total, there were 40 cases. As a result, at the moment there were 2601 outbreaks in Poland, of which 1713 cases were detected this year.

Experts mention a sharp increase in the incidence of new cases in the current year. During the whole history of observations in Poland, almost half of outbreaks among domestic pigs and more than 65% of outbreaks among wild boars were registered in the first half of 2018.
