Experts of the Institute of Environmental Management and Balanced Environmental Management work on the creation of an industry standard for environmental impact assessment

The draft national standards will ensure that pig farms are transparent in their environmental impact assessment procedures and receive a decision on the permissibility / inadmissibility of activities.

The Law of Ukraine " On Environmental Impact Assessment "comes into force already in December (18.12), therefore the relevance of this task is very high. Although the Law concerns almost all spheres of production, pork producers were the first to sound the alarm - the Law does not provide criteria for the admissibility of environmental impact, which became the basis for the decision of the official on the possibility or impossibility of carrying out activities. The development of industry standards will be a way to overcome the regulatory barriers that the law engenders, " say experts.

The development of standards became possible thanks to the grant support of the USAID "Agricultural development" Project.

In particular, the work on standards will include the development of criteria for evaluation, as well as a list of required documents and the structure of the report.
Mandatory stages of development: the formation of an interdepartmental working group, an analysis of existing world practices, discussions of developments with business representatives, industry associations and specialists like that.

"Clear criteria for evaluation are needed for businesses to conduct business honestly and transparently, and environmentalists, so that the environment does not suffer from grieving entrepreneurs."

The project "Support to Agrarian and Rural Development" ("Agricultural development") is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). It serves the purposes of comprehensive and sustainable economic growth through the development of Ukraine's agriculture.
