The Ministry of Agrarian Policy and the French colleagues discussed the prospects of livestock development in Ukraine

In the Ministry of Agrarian Policy a meeting was held with the participation of the Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, Olena Kovalova, the academician-secretary of the Department of Zootechnics of the Ostap Zhukorskyi National Academy of Sciences and the delegation of the French Embassy in Ukraine led by the adviser on agriculture of the Embassy of France in Ukraine Nicolas Perrin.

The aim of the event was to discuss issues related to livestock prospects in Ukraine, processing and commercialization of livestock products, the functioning of markets, the impact of the Free Trade Area Agreement on the livestock sector between the representatives of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and the research institutions of France in the field of animal husbandry.

The meeting was held within the framework of the implementation of the Memorandum between the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and the French Agrarian State Agency for Agriculture and Marine Products "France AgriMer". It is planned to conduct a joint study of the livestock sector within the next six months.

"Our French colleagues arrived on time, because right now, together with the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences and profile associations, we form a detailed vision of livestock development for the period until 2025. The development of the livestock sector, the provision of biosafety, the introduction of the norms of European legislation in accordance with the Association Agreement, improving the quality of products and the development of cooperation in the field of animal husbandry are important tasks of agrarian policy. Right now, the normative formulation of these tasks is taking place by developing an appropriate strategy and a draft budget for 2018, " notes Olena Kovalova and emphasizes the effectiveness of bilateral relations.

At the end of the meeting, the participants agreed on further active dialogue.

French livestock production is highly technological and of high quality scientific basis. Particularly interesting is the experience and practice of dairy cattle breeding and pig breeding in the context of the development of cooperation. Cooperatives in France provide more than 50% of milk production and 65% of pork production. In total, cooperatives in France account for about 60% of agricultural sales.
