On March 6-7 in Kyiv, the International Milk Congress is held, where EBRD representative Vasyl Hovhera named the main myths of cooperation.
The expert said that for more than 3 years, FAO and the EBRD have been working on the development of cooperatives in Ukraine.
The main myth of cooperation has remained since the Soviet Union, the cooperative is a collective farm.
Vasyl Hovhera assured that this is not a new form of collectivization. Collectivization is compulsory, cooperation is voluntary.
The second myth: it is late to cooperate
The third myth: a cooperative is for the poor and small farmers
The last myth: cooperative is charity
According to Vasyl Hovhera, the cooperative is a business process aimed at making a profit.
"For a farmer, this is an opportunity to be a full participant in the whole process of forming value added," notes Vasiliy Govgera.
He also named the main factors that that impede cooperation: lack of understanding of benefits, mistrust, legislation, unwillingness to be an innovator.
