The volume of production of livestock products in 2018 will be formed under the influence of the negative trend in recent years to reduce the number of livestock and poultry, primarily in households.
This was told by the director of the National Scientific Center "Institute of Agrarian Economics", academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Yurii Lupenko.
According to the calculations of scientists of the Institute of Agrarian Economics, the gross output of livestock is projected at 68.4 billion UAH (in constant prices in 2010), which is 1.1% less than last year.
If the number of cows, sheep and goats remains at the enterprises of the population and agricultural enterprises until the end of the year, the volume of meat production - cattle and poultry production - is forecasted at the level of 3155.1 thousand tons in 2018, which is 1.3% less than last year.
According to him, most of all - by 8.1% - volumes of pork production will decrease. If pigs are kept in farms of the population and in agricultural enterprises, the pigs' meat will be produced up to 872.4 thousand tons.
The volume of production of meat of cattle will decrease by 0.4% - to 616.6 thousand tons.
After a slight decline in the production of poultry meat in 2015 to 1505 thousand tons in 2016, there has been a tendency to increase it. It will continue in 2018. According to forecasts of scientists of the Institute of Agrarian Economics, it is expected to increase poultry meat production by 2.5% against 2017 - to 1600.6 thousand tons.
Production of meat of sheep and goats will continue to decrease and amount to 28.2 thousand tons, which is 3.1% less than in 2017.
There will be a tendency to reduce the volume of milk production. 11133 thousand tons in 2014, according to calculations of scientists of the Institute of Agrarian Economics, will decrease to 10 235.8 thousand tons in 2018, that is. The number will be 0.6% less than last year.
Production of eggs in 2015 has suffered the greatest decline among other types of livestock products - largely due to the loss of production capacity, which are located in the temporarily occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions. Then it fell from 19.6 billion pcs. in 2014 to 17 billion pcs. in 2015, and in 2016 the number decreased to 15.1 billion pcs. Last year, there was a certain stabilization, and the volume of production of this type of livestock products increased to 15.3 billion pcs. This year the positive trend will continue. According to the calculations of scientists of the Institute of Agrarian Economics, eggs are projected to receive 15.7 billion pieces or 2.6% more than last year.
Production of wool will decrease by 3.1% - up to 1.95 thousand tons.
"Thus, in 2018, the resumption of growth in livestock production is not expected in 2018," sums up Yurii Lupenko.
