Today Japan is among the priority foreign markets for expanding the sales of Ukrainian agrarian and food products. The successful development of this market requires joint systemic work of business and government. This was stated by the Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine on European Integration Olha Trofimtseva during her welcome speech at the business breakfast "FOODEX JAPAN - gateway to Asia: on the way to the national pavilion", the press service of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy reported.

"Japan is an extremely interesting sales market for the Ukrainian producer and exporter, not only because of selling raw materials, but rather from the point of view of establishing export of processed and finished food products, especially in such interesting niches as organic and healthy food products," Olha Trofimtseva said.

According to the deputy minister, in 2017 bilateral trade of agrarian and food products between our countries amounted to only $ 89.2 million, of which $ 85.8 million is the share of exports of Ukrainian products. "At the same time, we see serious opportunities for expanding the commodity range of domestic exports to the Japanese market in the near future, including due to the active participation of Ukrainian companies in the largest food exhibition in this region - FOODEX JAPAN," the Deputy Minister for European Integration commented.

She said that according to the results of the market analysis conducted by representatives of Consulting Integrated and profile associations, a number of Ukrainian food products have been identified, which will be in great demand among the Japanese consumer. We are talking about confectionery, snacks and superfood, tomato paste and other types of pastes from vegetables and berries, jams, canned vegetables and fruits, beer, wine, organic products, honey, nuts, etc.

"The Japanese market is very demanding and difficult to enter. Therefore, together with the State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection, we are working actively to open this country for an increasing number of our products. I am very pleased to note that 22 companies from Ukraine this year took part in the large-scale exhibition of food and beverages "FOODEX JAPAN 2018". In addition, seven Ukrainian companies represented their products at their own stands. I hope that in 2019, thanks to the joint efforts of the representatives of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, MEDT, Export promotion office and interested producers, we will be able to organize the first National stand of Ukraine within the framework of this exhibition in Japan," Olha Trofimtseva summarized.
