Iryna Palamar took part in the discussion of the ban on palm oil at a meeting of the agricultural committee of the Verkhovna Rada

On April 3, 2018 the head of the Ukrainian Stock Breeders Association, Iryna Palamar, took part in the meeting of the Agrarian Committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, at which a whole series of bills in the field of agriculture were discussed.

One of the key issues was the discussion of the draft Law of Ukraine "On Amendments to Certain Laws of Ukraine Regarding the Prohibition of the Use of Palm Oil in the Food Production", submitted by People's Deputies of Ukraine Liashko O.V., Halasiuk V.V., Vovk V.I., Mosiichuk I.V. (registration No. 3871 of 02/02/2016).

The purpose of the bill is to prohibit the use of palm oil in the production of food, milk and dairy products and installation for violation of administrative responsibility.

The project caused lively discussion and support of the majority of the committee members, since the issue of food safety today is quite acute. Present People's Deputies and representatives of profile organizations stressed the importance of adopting this bill in the short term.

"Ukraine, as an agrarian state, is able to provide its citizens with its own quality products, in particular, dairy products. After all, this is the health of our nation and our children," Iryna Palamar, the head of the USBA commented. - Everyone knows how harmful palm fats are. But they are added to most dairy products disguised as animal products, and at the price of animal fat. That is, there is not only harm to people's health here, but also frank fraud, as dairy processors are cashing in, giving out cheap palm oil for expensive cow's oil. Moreover, no one controls these processes".

Some producers of oil products have spoken against the total ban on the use of palm fats. Argument to this was that palm oil was not prohibited for use in food products and in most developed countries of the world. Another thing is that there are several of its varieties, and it is necessary that consumers get products with safe types of palm fats.

Thus, as a result, it was decided to finalize this draft law, taking into account the opinion of all participants in the discussion, for further submission to the Parliament.

Among other issues that have entered the agenda, there were another number of bills.

The bill "On Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts of Ukraine on Optimizing the System of Public Administration in the Sphere of Agriculture" (No. 4922 of 07/07/2016); the draft Law of Ukraine "On Amendments to the Land Code of Ukraine and some other legislative acts to counter raids", (registration No. 8121 of 14.03.2018); the bill "On Amendments to the Law of Ukraine "On State Support for Agriculture in Ukraine" (registration No. 6055 of 16.11.2017); the draft Law of Ukraine "On Amendments to Section X "Transitional Provisions" of the Land Code of Ukraine on the adoption of urgent measures to accelerate the division of land of state property" (registration No. 6433 of 11.05.2017); the draft Law of Ukraine "On Amendments to Section X "Transitional Provisions" of the Land Code of Ukraine on the adoption of urgent measures to accelerate the division of land of state property" (registration No. 6433 of 11.05.2017); the draft law "On privatization and the procedure for allocating to the citizens of Ukraine on the land plots of agricultural land in state ownership" (register No. 6407 of April 24, 2017).

All bills that were discussed were supported by the Ukrainian Stock Breeders Association and other participants of the meeting.
